His greatest work is himself. As a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, engineer, inventor, and scientist, Da Vinci is the poster boy of the Renaissance. During this era, Europe emerged from the economic stagnation of the Middle Ages and experienced a time of financial growth. Perhaps most importantly, the Renaissance was an age in which artistic, social, scientific, and political thought turned in new directions and experienced a rebirth. Da Vinci embodies this spirit. He is the epitomy of the Renaissance man.

An interesting fact: He was one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance, yet he left only a handful of completed paintings.

His inventions.

As an engineer, Leonardo conceived ideas vastly ahead of his own time, conceptually inventing a helicopter, a tank, the use of concentrated solar power, a calculator, a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics, the double hull, and many others. Relatively few of his designs were constructed or were feasible during his lifetime.[3] Some of his smaller inventions such as an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire entered the world of manufacturing unheralded.

He co-wrote the DaVinci Code. This piece has garnered more fame and money than any of his other accomplishments, so there is where I cast my vote.
