I cannot remmember the early episodes of Grey's Anatomy, does anyone know where the name for Derek as 'McDreamy' came from, who first said it and why ? does it have a reference to McDonalds or what ?

Patrick Dempsey was on the set shooting the pilot of the show. Every day the writers sat on set watching him. they kept calling him McDreamy. "The man is McDreamy. He is. Look at him. Just look at him. There isn't another word for that kind of sexy gorgeousness. McDreamy."
It was first said by Christina in the 2nd episode of seasons 1 - "The First Cut is the Deepest" and it just stuck.

I watched the first series too and I don't recall any reference to 'McDreamy' at all. His surname doesn't even begin with Mc, so I can't understand where they get that from. It might just be a name that they decided to give him; it's not against the law to give a nickname that doesn't relate too much, right?
So basically, as far as I know they didn't include much detail on that.
