I have recently started socialising and going out a lot more and have realised that my make-up bag is quite empty. The contents have dwindled down to eyeliner, mascara and concealer. What make-up (including brands if there are any that anyone can recommend) should i have in my make-up for every day, and what for special occasions and nights out? Most of my friends wear foundation and powder on top, with some eye makeup.

If you want to shoot for the basics.. it all depends on your skin type. Mary Kay is my absolute favorite brand of makeup. My other favorite brands are clinique, loreal, and neutrogena. I don't care for cover girl, revlon or max factor: they're just not as good in my opinion.

Things that I always have on hand:
Foundation (whatever fits you best)
Concealer
Mascara
Eyeliner
Eyelash curler
Eyeshadows (in several shades, depending on you tone)
Blush (for when you need it)
Chapstick (lol)

I use Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer foundation (very sheer, with Retinol treatment, SPF 20 and moisturizers because I have super dry skin). For concealer I use, Neutrogena Skin Clearing Concealer (still very light with Salicylic Acid for mild on-the-spot acne treatment), On good days after using lots of Aveno Moisturizer for Dry Skin (with Salicylic Acid) I'll use L'Oreal True Match Makeup (which is good for normal skin, I swear by, it matches so well).

Dry skin:
You should steer clear of heavy liquids and powders which dry it out. Try a tinted moisturizer or very very light liquids that are specifically for dry skin.

Combination Oily/Dry:
This is easy to accomodate. You can use anything from tinted moisturizers on dry areas and liquids or powders on oily areas.

Normal:
You can use whatever foundation you like lol.

Oily:
Liquids and powders. Try to look for things for oily skin. Too much makeup on oily skin however will cause increased acne.

I usually just wear a light foundation, no powder, with concealer if needbe. A little eyeliner, mascara, and blush sometimes. If so, it's is a light subtle color, like medium pinkish tan. Mary Kay makes the best blush I know of. This all depends on your tone. I don't use alot of eyeshadow, if I do, they're very neutral. And again Mary Kay is the best brand of eyeshadow I know of.

If you're younger, stick to neutrals, pinks or light lavenders (this is what I use, you may use different shades, still all depending on your tone) during the day, and brighter colors at night when you go out.

For eyes, you'll need about 3 or 4 complimenting colors at a time. The brightest on the lid, the ligthest to highlight your brow bone, a darker (not too dark) to go in the crease to accentuate your brow bone. Some wear a small streak of the darkest color along their lash line, but I don't usually. Most makeup magazines sell quad-sets of eyeshadow in four colors for this purpose. (Lol that's why they come in 4 colors that are close together alot of the time, i.e. 4 brown shades, 4 pinks, 4 greens)

I don't even wear lipstick or lipgloss. I do chapstick LOL. But I work in a grocery store and don't see any need for lipstick because I'm constantly running around. But I know some makeup company is coming out with a lipstick that is very sheer. That might be nice to have, because lipstick (on me) looks horrible. Some people can do lipstick, like Gwen Stefani haha. She looks great in bright red but I don't. You might. Just try it out. Bright red, save it for nights if you must hehe.

Just try different things and think, "Does this look right for day/night?" Typically you can wear drastic constrasting colors on your eyes for night, and during the day you try to stick with complimenting colors that are in the same shade group.

Oh and one last thing, if you're older than 15 don't wear sparkle ANYTHING during the day.

Good luck! :)

Make up bag contents depend on each person's need. If your don't usually use more than eyeliner & mascara, that's nothing you need to carry about just to fill up your bag. Add a small mirror or compact with mirror in case your nose shines on a hot night, absorbent paper ( come in a handy pack ) will also help if you don't like the thin film of powder. You didn't mention a lipstick, if you don't like that then a lip gloss, more just a sheen for day, but a glossier one for evening, immediately transforms a girl's looks.

Day Make-up:
foundation (for light coverage, use soft foundation sponge or wedge), powder (loose & translucent), concealer (try Revlons light-reflective or Yves Saint Lauder's Touche Eclat), eyeshadows (neutral shades, e.g. 3 colours in a palette: you can get these anywhere but Revlon have ones that last for 12hours!!), eyeliner (black), eyelash curler, mascara, lipstick (neutral or soft pink shade) or lipgloss, lipbalm, blusher (neutral, depends on your skin tone) & brush, and a tiny compact mirror!

Evening Make-Up:
foundation (if you already have some on then you may not need to put anymore on. Alternatively, try a illuminating or glowing foundation: great for a night out. I think Rimmel do one called Rimmel Recover), powder (loose & translucent), concealer, eyeshadows (different to day make-up: experiment with different colours: again this depends on your skin tone! You could always try a smoky look!), eyeliner (black), eyelash curler, mascara, lipstick (a red shade or darker colour) or coloured lipgloss, blusher (again, depends on your skin tone, different colours available: pink, brown...) & brush, and a tiny compact mirror.
[Focus on make-up, I'll been told, should either be mainly focused on the eyes or the mouth, never on both. So if you are wearing strong eye make-up, don't wear a strong red lipstick but a neutral shade or gloss.]

Experiment with make-up, different styles suit different faces. Ask for help at beauty counters. I use Clinique. Others to try is Estee Lauder, Clarins, M.A.C., Benefits. These are more expensive brands. If you want something cheaper, try Rimmel, Maxfactor, Revlon, No.7, Mabelliene.

There is no need to buy all your cosmetic products from one brand, I use different products from different brands.

Every girl who wears make-up should know that foundation is the base of the face - oooh that rhymes. Sorry :D Anyways, yes get foundation (one that will blend into your skin easily) some quick lip gloss because of the nice weather, mascara - either black or brown, eyeliner - always have a black but you can wear any colour you want, and thats basically it. Look simple for spring.

If your going clubbing or to a party, all that add extra lip glosses, eye shadow and blushers. Oooh and a eyelash curler, if you're not using Max-Factor. And dont bring a mascara you haven't used already to a club - you dont know if it'll leave chunks :S

hope that helps! x-x-x-x-x

Go to a large department store and get one of the assistants there to make you up, most cosmetic counters will do this for free. Then you can see what suits you.

I like Benevertoobusytobebeautiful, who sell stuff on the net (plus a couple of shops in the South), because they're ethical in how they make their stuff, but it depends if you mind buying without trying first.

I use powder (I think foundation cream makes you look too made-up), a little bit of rouge if I'm looking pale, eyeshadow, eye liner, lipstick and masara for evening; just eyeshadow and mascara (because I've got fair eyelashes I need it) during the day.

I must for me is Touche Eclat. Its a great concealer for dark circles, spots or blemishes. I use it under foundation for night time and under some bronzing powder during the day when a lighter finish is required.
I don't normally wear eyeshadow and blush during the day...just some eyeliner and mascara. For night time use and when the whole shebang is required, I like Revlon or Maybelline.
Don't forget a good make up removing regime. I particularly like Boots No7 range.....I have very sensitive skin and this range is perfect for me.

it depends on what your face need...
if you always suffer from lack of sleep and appear very tired and sickly, a blusher is a must then!
foundation, corrector and concealor would be a must for individuals with skin problems.
if you have thin and short eyelashes, mascara is a must.
if you're a minimalist, tinted moisturiser and lip gloss would be an everyday need coz that's what i put on my face everyday ONLY.
i totally LOVE lip gloss and splurge on them.
and another small note. splurge on stuff like foundation and tinted moisturiser coz it would be the stuff that comes into direct contact with your skin.
other stuff like mascara, eye colours, lip colour, blusher and etc, you can just buy normal(cheaper) brands. moreoever, make up has to be changed regularly and not only when you've used them up. so when it's time to chuck the less than 90% used blusher, you won't feel the pinch when you're throwing away a maybelline one rather than a dior or lancome one....

only ever use foundation AND blusher for nights out, it can really dry out your skin: for normal days- natural light eyeshadow; browns, beiges, greys and a darker lippie. dont ever put emphasis on eyes and lips, one or the other.
for nights out- darker shadows; dark purple, then lighter purple, reaching up into a light pink at the top, and a pink glossy lippie.
for socialising days and/or nights - vivid lippie; pink or dark red, covered with a clear gloss and blue or brown shadow.
always keep concealer and a glossy lip balm or gloss in ur make-up bag; and a couple of shadows- fave natural, bright and normal colours. a dark eyeliner and mascara and tweezers are essential too.
l'oreal and colourtrend from avon are both excellent brands of make-up to buy and use.
gd luck hun

LashExact mascara in black is fantastic. You definitely need some blush(CoverGirl has some good selections) and a good brush to apply it with in there. Be sure to carry chap stick and any colored lip gloss but don't play up lips and eyes both, just one or the other or you'll clash. Keep the eyeliner, I personally NEED that iny my bag, it does so much good for your eyes. Get eye shadow that brings out the color of your eyes such as brown for blue eyes, purple for hazel and I think pinkish colors are supposed to bring out green and then there's brown but I forget what it is but there's a brand, I think Almay or someone that does colormatch and tells you what colors to wear to bring out your eyes. Maybe keep the color of nail polish you're wearing too if you're very articulate in case you have any chips. I don't personally like covering my face with foundation and such but concealer that you can dab on zits is good to keep in there. A small moisturizer and/or lotion for hands and face may be good to toss in too.Oh, and last but not least, keep a small compact mirror in there if you need to do touchups where there isn't a mirror. Oh, and if you have ANY room left after all of that, maybe a small bottle of perfume for when you're out. Don't apply too much but in case you need to freshen up or whatever.
