What are you solving for? Whatever letter(s) you are solving for determines the steps you take.

remember that you are trying to isolate the variable you are solving for and also remember that what is done on one side of the equal sign must be done to the other side as well.

for example: AB=CD solve for C

in order to get C by itself, you need to get D
out of there, so you divide by D on both sides
and you would have AB/D = C
