There is a way - when they next send you an email if you open the header settings to full, the IP address of the sender is shown. It will be shown as:

originating [ip:xxx.xxx.xxx.xx] or similar.

A good way is to ... know your ip address.
Make sure you know what program is running in your computer.
Have some kind of connection to the other compute, like through yahoo messanger or something. WHen sending a file then you can go to

Start>all programs>accessories> Command Prompt.
While sending the file type in netstat -n

Bring up some numbers... but you have to know yours and reconize a new ip addres.

Ask the person to send you an email. If that person is on your messenger list, then the way to get their IP address is a bit complicated. Try to share something with that person, and then start-cmd-enter-netstat. You should see that person's ip.

If they have sent you an e-mail, the IP address is in the Advanced Headers. It is a series of numbers and dots,
I know what one looks like - but where to tell you it is, is a little harder.
My Lycos.com mail has a notation: "Originating IP address"
Others dont.
Using "x's" for numbers - here is an example:
xx.xxx.xxx.xx
