Generally, when a SCHOOL doesn't allow a prom, it is because of problems in the past where people didn't obey the rules, were drinking, using drugs, having sex and in general, creating a mess for someone else to clean up at the expense of the school.

If you are truly interested in hosting a party, you need to consider several factors:

(1) WHO is paying for this event? Food, drinks, decorations, photography and entertainment (either live or DJ) all cost money.

(2) LOCATION - I can't imagine anyone wanting to use their private home for a school free for all. So, you will need to rent a facility that has a ballroom or large dining area for dancing, sitting, and eating. Again, money is part of the equation.

(3) WHOM TO INVITE - surely this will not be a cattle call of all students at your school? That could open you up to a host of issues that you have not considered. If a child has allergies to various foods and drinks, will you be offering a safe alternative? Will you have enough chaperones to keep everyone safe? Who will make sure those that arrive were indeed INVITED to participate and not just crashing your party?

Other than that, any good event needs the following things to succeed:

A CONFIRMED DATE AND TIME - no one wants to be all dressed up and nowhere to go.

REAL PRINTED INVITATIONS - none of that xeroxed, colored paper garbage. All that xeroxing tells the attendees is that you don't have class enough to do this event correctly. Proper invitations with clearly addressed envelopes (which include date and time of event, it's duration and the proper dress for the evening's events) show that you are mature enough to host an event of this importance.

If there is a cost per couple, then there should be numbered tickets made and sold to defray the cost of the event.

If you are being philanthropic, you need a guest list which includes the name of the primary guest and their date or escort. This keeps out those people who were NOT invited to participate and reduces your costs to throw Cinderella's ball.

Otherwise you can easily run into thousands of dollars for refreshments and entertainment as well as possible damage from inconsiderate party goers.
