Well, I don't know your character or the play. But Bergdorf Goodman's is kind of a stereotypical Very Fancy Store. If your character is shopping there, then I think the playwright is letting you know that she is rich. Start there--what could you wear to let the audience know that you are rich?

However, you also need to consider your character's other facets. How old is she? What's her personality? What's the weather like where she lives? etc. You will want to choose a costume that helps the audience understand as much about this woman as possible.

Good luck!

Here's the description from ny.com: "Bergdorf Goodman offers a wide selection of furs and clothing for both men and women. They cater to a generally conservative and very sophisticated clientele. Located in the heart of the midtown tourist and shopping district, the store is a block away from the Trump Tower shopping center and the world famous Plaza Hotel."

So someone who shops regularly at Bergdorf Goodman would likely have couture, sophisticated taste. Check out the "Looks of the Season" section ( http://www.bergdorfgoodman.com/store/catalog/template/catC11.jhtml?itemId=cat160006&parentId=cat000010&masterId=cat000002&cmCat= ) for the sort of couture fashion you might find at the store (which would be the sort of thing the character would wear to shop there.)

Classic bets are black, fur, and sleek dresses. Right now, metallic looks and volume are hot (check out the "Looks of the Season Link".)

Hope this helped!

One would wear something expensive and chic. Such as Escada, Gucci, Prada, Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.
