First - I think "being bored" is an excuse to complain. I'm 50 years old - and I don't remember that last time I was bored. Maybe in a World History Class in college - before I DROPPED it. Why in the world would anybody make the choice to be bored?

Okay - so - for some reason - people make that choice in their church. Hmmmmm. My guess is that they don't want to be there. They go there out of fear (burning in hell for eternity) or to make some family member or mate happy. I wish people wouldn't do that. I happily go to church every Sunday - and I love it. It's FAR from boring.

Namaste!

Catholic churches do get repetitive after a few years. Nothing interesting happens - it's verrry routine. I don't understand how people can go every week religiously. It's difficult for me to pay attention to them - everything they say I was already taught.

Some churches I've heard of sound more exciting then the Catholic masses. Like the churches that you get up and dance and sing joyous songs to. It's easier to stay up at those then monotone Catholic masses.

Sometimes I just think of Churches as clubs. You go there because you have a common interest (or belief) with other people.

As a regular church-goer, I feel qualified to answer this question in the spirit in which it is asked, because I obviously have no axe to grind with organized religion.

I think the priest we have at our church has been dispatched to us because someone looked at the demographics and decided we were a bunch of working class slobs who deserved no better. Honest. He insults our intelligence by kidding around constantly, I mean constantly, a real joke a minute clown, and talking in platitudes that don't really open any eyes or make anyone examine their own habitual modes of behavior. When I joined this church, it was portrayed to me as a "continuation of my spiritual journey through life." But our weak priest makes this journey seem more like a detour or a sidetrack into a ditch. I need someone who is tough, into tough love, says things that make me look inside and examine my routines, not a lot of ritual and corny old uncle clowning. ---A little more seriousness, in other words, and a little deeper message.

it may have to do with the repetitive nature of going to the same place once a week and hearing the same message for the rest of their lives. that thought is balanced by ones belief system(the more you believe, the more you feel as if your actions are meaningful). for others, it's a show of respect and a small price to pay for your soul.

to change the protocol and "lighten" things up a bit requires consideration from the youth movement.

Sometimes church sermons and worship are outdated and very monotone. I personally never went to church because I would literally fall asleep during the message. But, when you find a church with the type of worship music and minister/preacher/pastor that you enjoy, you begin to look forward to church.

In order to get anything out of Church your heart must be open to receive what is being preached. Some people go to Church for the wrong reason, but if your heart and soul is open to receive God's word Church won't be so boring!!!

I tend to think that it's us. People these days want to be entertained 24hrs/day. Adults want jobs that are exciting and challenging. Kids want the same thing at school and at home. Usually adults and kids want others to do all of the work to make something exciting. When things aren't exciting we say it's boring or pointless or ????? Sure work, school and church isn't always exciting, but does it make it any less important?

I grew up in the Catholic church, and I tell you that is DULL. They do the same things every week, in the exact same order. It has a different message every week, granted, but it all starts to sound the same after awhile. Also, Catholic masses are so sad...it seems like they're mourning their faith instead of celebrating it.

There could be a whole variety of reasons why: they aren't religious, not interesting, not their thing, too quiet; can't sit still for hours; the same thing every week; moaning-ish; not enough enlightenment, happiness, enthusiasm; can't listen to some one talk for hours; irritating; find it wasting time; rather do something else, etc.
