Why do poeple live in tornado prone area's?

Because there are dangers everywhere -- one accepts the risks associated with any location in order to live there.

For example, a tornado can occur just about anywhere in the U.S., so why not live where they have the earliest and best warning system for the threat? Fires can occur anywhere, but we accept that the likelyhood of one occuring in our building is slim, but we live with fire detectors and smoke detectors if we are smart. We generally do not live in buildings without smoke detectors even if the possibility of a fire is equal in both.

What risk do you find acceptable:
chance of being killed in a vehicle accident?
chance of being killed during a robbery?
chance of being killed by a drive-by shooting?
chance of being killed by a spouse, parent, significant other?
chance of a major earthquake?
chance of a major forest fire/wild fire?
chance of flooding?
chance of a mud slide?
chance of an avalanche?
chance of a hurricane?
chance of being killed during freezing weather?
chance of being killed by excessive summer heat?
chance of being in a severe drought?

That's an excellent question. Why indeed?
Or in fire breaks in high risk, dry forest areas - or on the side of mud slide prone cliffs on the west coast - or on land that's below sea level and prone to hurricanes - and the list goes on and on.
I don't have an answer - perhaps they are just resistant to change, or dumb as a door knob.

Tornados generally only happen during asmall portion of the year.

The question should be; "why do people live in mobile homes in tornado prone areas ?"

Either they are born in that area and just accept the possibility of tornadoes as a fact of life or they don't think anything bad will happen to them and are in denial.
