Not lucky enough to have any right now, but I used to import them by the crate load. If they are eating a healthy diet, and generally active they are happy. If they don't eat, don't move around and are generally lethargic they are not happy.

No rule of thumb though - unfortunately unless you have two it difficult - but if you have 2 and they are happy they enjoy healthy sex life, and you hear them banging shells.
