SHe had them 10 days ago. When they are 3 weeks they will be weened and will be able to leave there mother at around 4 weeks I am guessing.. I do not want to bring them back to the pet shop where I bought my hamster b/c they mix all the sexes togther. That is how I bought mine pregnant:( I don't know what to do. I can not keep them. I already have 3 hamsters. I don't know how many she had, but it looks like more then 5 from what I can see when I see there butts stickin out from under her.

Once they are ready to leave, you can try to find them good homes.

http://www.craigslist.org :: Just choose your state and put an ad in "Pets" under community. Just make sure you have an adoption fee of about 20$ to avoid people who just need free snake food!

Just make sure before you give them away that the person has had a hampster/has one and knows how to take care of them.

Also, keep them with the mother until 4 weeks. Try to find them homes before then, so when they are 4 weeks old they can go to their new home! Leaving them in there until they are 5 weeks old only stresses the mother.

Good Luck with everything!

I've had hamsters growing up and they had babies. We'd always find good homes for them at around 5 wks (I think). As you don't own the male that got her pregnant, you don't have to worry about the male eating the babies. (MIne did that when I separated the sexes. I didn't realize the dad would eat his son. The dad died soon after. It was horrifying!)
We never really had a problem finding homes for them and we never brought them to a pet store. Personally, I would rather buy from someone who had the hamster in their home than a pet store. If you place an ad in the paper or buysell.com, you should find good homes for them.
Please get yourself a hamster book and it will help you with information about when would be the best time for them to leave their mother and so on. I just would trust an animal book more than the 'net, unless you find a legit website which has a vet or something providing assistance.
I wish you the best.
Take care and just try to enjoy the experience.

Yes, at 3-4 weeks they will wean. At 6 weeks they are old enough for new homes. I perfer this age to the 4 weeks many people sell them at since they had more time to grow and mature. If the eyes are open, you can then check to see how many she had when you clean the cage, but not before this time. Regardless you will need to separate the males and females. Females can stay with mom, but the males need to be caged in another and not with your other males you may have. They will attack the babies.

Our first Syrian to have babies (and only), had a litter of 9, however she passed before the eyes were open and we put them with our one Russian dwarf that was nursing, 4 survived.

You can place ads in the local free papers and call your local branch of the Humane Society to see if they might take them. Also look online for animal rescues in your area they could help. When adopting out them yourself, it's best not to let families with babies up to age 6 have them, they're too easily injured and worse killed. They in turn are more likely to bite a young hand out of fear. Have the adoptee bring their cage with them and check to see if they have the right litter (aspen, Critter Care or Care Fresh) pine and cedar are a big no go with me. You can instruct them on the phone on what litter and type of wheel to use. The wheel should be solid, not slatted. Slatted ones will injure and amputate a young hamsters leg.

I have gotten just as many sick answers with some of my questions. . .guess it's because they have nothing better to do.
I will tell you from experience that a mother hamster WILL eat her young if she is made nervous.
Yes,you could sell them to another pet store.
Yes,you could sell them to neigborhood kids.
You could give them to schools that allow "pet projects".
I don't know if hamsters do this or not but my son had a gerbil we bred with our male and when she had her litter I called the pet store to see about the same dilemma and they warned me that at about 3 weeks after the first litter I could expect a second litter because when they breed she is bred to carry 2 litters at once.
She carries on with the first litter and at some point she allows the gestation of the second litter which will arrive about the time she weens the first liter. . . Good Luck.

And not to be mean,we did feed those liters to "Grandpa's snake. . . .nature is.

I always sold mine to a pet store. Call some local stores (including mom and pop stores, not just the big guys) and see if they are interested. They don't pay much, but what are you going to do with a million hamsters (and believe me you'll have that many after a few months if you keep them)!

When I had hamsters I took mine to the pet store and they bought them from me. If you have a pet store in your area see if they would buy them from you. If you don't get rid of them soon the males will start going after the mother.

Deliver all of the babies back to a pet shop, you really have no choice unless you want to start your very own hamster farm! There is no spay-neuter for rodents so just hope that they are treated kindly and adopted. Baby hamsters become sexually mature very quickly and unless you want a male baby to make its own mother and sisters pregnant you have to move pretty quickly.

Well you really have no choice but to take them to a pet store, call around and ask if all places mix the males and females!

Okay. You need to know that you have to keep them separate BEFORE they turn three weeks old because they can mate at that age.

Call your local animal shelter if you can't find homes for them amongst your friends and relatives.
