Drivers training should definately be more rigorous. How many of us encounted situations that we touched on in the course but never actually delt with before? People should learn that the left lane is a passing lane not a "fast lane". Atleast that way you won't have morons sitting the left lane all day forcing people to pass on the right....morons. I don't think kids should be allowed to drive on their own until they are 18...They can't smoke or buy pornograpy and can't drink until they are 21 so why should they be able to operate a vehicle that is potentially dangerous to themselves and everyone else. Teenagers should definately start learning at the age of 14 and should be able to drive at 16 with a licensed driver but in my opinion should not operate a vehicle on there own until they are 18 and after they have passed a road skills test that tests more than turning on the car, parking, making a turn and being able to merge. The major cause of death for teenagers is car accidents so if you think lack of drivers training isn't the issue maybe you should reconsider.

I think the only reason that kids can drive at 16 alone is because to many parents probably complain to law makers that it would way to much trouble for mom and dad to drive their kids places until they are 18 and they also probably argue that they can handle driving on their own when they are 16 (when clearly most cannot).

I know there are teenagers who handle driving just fine at 16 but give me a break they are not as experienced as us older folks who have been driving a few years (and even some of us can't handle driving and shouldn't be allowed on the road).

So to sum up we need a more rigorous drivers education course and road skills test and you should be 18 before driving a vehicle alone. Maybe that will make teenage automobile issurance cheaper?

A 10 panel drug screening process, a 40 hour AA class, no exceptions, must ace the the written and driving tests, 0 wrong. Learners Permit at 17, Drivers license at 19. Maybe this would reduce the number of fatalities in automobile accidents and make people realize that driving is a privilage and not a right. They will get tired of spending money to get it down right and how much it cost them to get it right. DUI's, 3 year automatic suspension, DWI's, 5 year automatic suspension, 2nd DWI, 10 year automatic suspension. 3rd DWI, loss for life, no reprieves. Any suspended license, required retest.
