i have been on the pill for one month now and i was just wondering if it is safe to start having sex. i wasn't sure if there was a waiting period until you can start having sex so it will gives the pills time to work.. i was just curious.

i am not a young teen, i am a mature adult, so i don't need any rude answers please. i am just new to the whole birth control thing and i started taking it because i am getting married soon.

answers are appreciated.

If you have been on it for one full month, then you should be fine. And, since you are using a condom at the same time, you are going to be even safer!

Word of advice: you are not safe on the first couple days of the pill after your period. Be extra sure to use a condom during those days.

word to the wise, dont always listen to random ppl's answers in cases like this....do some research. this quote is according to the ortho tricyclen website (thepill.com) but you can assume that other pills have the same functioning.....

2. How long until I am protected against pregnancy?
If you use a Sunday Start and you are taking the Pill for the first time, you MUST use a backup method of birth control (such as condoms or spermicide) for the first 7 days. If you use a Day 1 Start, you are protected from becoming pregnant as soon as you take your first pill.

if you want to be DOUBLE sure, check the website for your specific pill, if not ortho trycyclen.

Girl I would definitely wait another month or so to make sure that is fully in your system. I wouldn't trust it just yet. Use back up just in case...and just to let you know...i got pregnant on the pill twice...lol so be careful if your taking any other meds with the pill it can interfere with them..like antibiotics..but your an adult you know this or at least your pharmacist will or should let you know if your taking anything that will interfere with them. Oh and i have to say this even though your a big girl...the pill doesn't protect you from STDs or HIV...lol....sorry I'm a mom...with a teenage daughter...lol sorry and I'm also on the pill...with praying hands that i don't have another...lmao

If you've been on the pill for a whole month already, it's safe. What counts most is taking the pills on time (the same time everyday, and beginning a new cycle on the sunday, or whatever day you choose, following the first day of your period) for them to work properly.

You are supposed to wait until you get your period to start taking them and then wait one month after you start taking them before having sex. It is important to take the pills at the same time every day for them to be the most effective. Some medications, such as antibiotics, can reduce their effectiveness so ask your doctor before taking any new medication. And good for you for waiting!

I think a month is standard. However, you should make sure with your doctor or on the pill package instructions just because they're all different. Better to be sure. Congratulations for the wedding!

usually I've heard to wait one month before you stop using other birth control methods, it might depend on the manufacturer of the pill. either check with your Dr. or pharmacist just to be sure.

if you're still using condoms anyway then you can start having sex whenever you like. otherwise, it's recommended that you use a backup method for the first cycle (or pillpack). enjoy!

The safe bet is to wait until your next menstrual cycle date
