The best product to use for building muscle is in fact the protein. Protein if you will is the muscles food. In order to repair itself, the muscle feeds on the protein in your body.
Generally speaking it is recommended that you eat at least 1-1.5grams per each pound of your body mass (eg: if you weight 140 pounds, then you would eat 210 grams of protein a day. This protein comes from both your general diet and is better to be also supplemented through shakes to avoid overeating.
Creatine is great to use in addition to protein because it assists with recovery. The idea with creatine is that it allows your body to do more within a shorter space of time. Therefore you can increase the intensity of your workouts which in turn build strength which assists in creating muscle.

PS: Protein makes you no more fat than any other forms of food. People who misunderstand protein make these claims, muscles do not grow out of fat. However, muscles grow when you eat more of the right healthy calories than you consume (this means naturally you put on some fat too).

Protein because it helps you gain fat which can be turned into muscle...While Creatine can help, it will also shrink your balls.
