I've been hearing strange sounds in the basement the past week or so. Its like a banging sound. No one is down there. Plus, I get so scared to stay home alone. Any idea what this could be??

Best thing to do to find out what's going on down there...
after dark, after the sun goes down...turn out all the lights and grab a flashlight...but, don't turn it on yet...
wait until you hear those sounds in the evening when it's dark and you only hear those sounds and then, open the basement door, very slowly...and start walking down the steps...one step at a time...step by step...do you feel a presence? like someone or SOMETHING is down there...watching you?
Pause on the steps....do you hear anything now....something moving around?
Go to the bottom of the steps, stop....listen...then, when you hear the sound again, turn on your flashlight in the direction of the sounds.....THERE! OVER THERE! OMG!....
WHAT IS....WHAT IS.....THAT??
You scream! you try to scream! but, nothing comes out....
you're too frightened...
you're SCARED! SCARED TO DEATH!
But, I hope it only turns out to be a mouse.

Somthings moved into your house recently! An unwanted guest for sure! There's a mouse in your house! (or maybe a squirrel!)Seriously, I lived in an old farm house and heard all sorts of strange a terrifing sounds! They were caused by squirrels! They were in the attic, and even in the old walls. : )

It's probably the water pipes. When hot water has been run, the metal expands. Then when it cools, the metal contracts and makes a thumping sound. It's all very, very normal. All houses creak as they "settle" too.

it could be an animal or something like that. You should call an exterminator to investigate. There is one other possibility that I can think of, but it should be the last one that you resort to.

Could be air in the pipes. sorry I don't know how to remove it... but not a ghost :)
