Your browser is most likely loading some additional options like yahoo toolbar or similar that is taking resources to load before it displays your homepage. A browser has a startup period similar to the way a computer does from powerdown. Additionally you can check your computer for spyware/viruses as those will cause a lot of slowdown headaches.

The best way to remove any additional toolbars is to go to either add/remove programs and remove any culprits there, or if you have Internet Explorer 7, you can manage them via Tools > Manage Addons > Enable or Disable addons. In Firefox you can click Tools > Addons. I don't remember how to go about it in IE 6 but I believe it was Tools > Options > and one of the tabs there allowed you to manage addons.

Good Luck!

Often when you first connect to the internet several programs check for updates in the background. Pages may be slow to load the first time after you delete your cache.

If you have spyware on your computer the spyware can be using your bandwidth.

Try closing the home page and then opening your home page again in a few minutes. If it is still slow.
