I have been taking courses online for my BSBA I am considering switching majors to accounting. Has anyone recieved ther accounting degree online? Was the material difficult to understand taking the courses this way? Where did you get your online degree from? Did you continue and get your Masters? was it online? MAc, MTax, or MBA? Did you get your CPA? Any other info or tips you would like to give would be great!

I'm doing my BSBA in accounting with Thomas Edison State College right now. It's not an easy option (which is what many people think an online degree is). The semesters are 12 weeks so you cannot afford to be behind. Ideally, you need to be able to devote at least a little time each day to study - cramming at weekends does not work, at least if you want a high enough GPA to be able to go to Grad School (which is the best way of getting the extra credits needed to become a CPA). Many of the homework exercises are designed to give you experience in the sort of questions (and the style) you will face in the CPA or CMA exams.

As to how difficult the material is, I find the accounting courses easier than anything else, but then I have been in the field for 20 years. If you can grasp the material in a brick-and-mortar school there is no reason why you cannot do so in an online setting.

When I'm done with my BSBA I plan to do a Masters in taxation. A work colleague was very impressed with Golden Gate University. They put you on academic probation if you get a C, so they make you work for your degree there too. They also have a dummy course you can take to see if online learning is for you.

Both schools are eleigible for federal financial aid.
