My 4 year old son has decided our new baby boy is going to be called Carrus! Not sure where he got it from, probably made up in his head. Wondered what people thought of the name as I have never heard it before!!!

I'm not too keen, like you said he might of just made it up. ask him again in a few days, he might come up with something different. x

Well, in Latin carrus means vehicle. Not sure if that's a good word to name someone after...how about if, as a compromise, you make your child's middle name Carrus? As a teacher, I've seen the kids make fun of kids who have unusual names. Maybe you could go through some baby name lists (online or in books) with your toddler, and let him make a list of names he likes. Ultimately, I'm not sure I'd let my older child be completely responsible for naming my younger. Some input would be OK, but it is YOUR child, after all.

When my cousin was pregnant her second child her 3 year old decided that the new baby should be called Lilli. Well, turns out new baby was a boy. Alex (the older) has no problem calling his baby brother Eric. They're really quite cute together now 5 and 2.

For sure ask him again in a few days. Ask him if the name is for a boy or a girl.

Have to say t hat I've never heard of the name Carrus before - it sounds OK, but count yourself lucky he didn't come up with the name our son chose for our new baby. 3 year old Callum came up with Baby Shopo. No idea where he got this from, but thankfully he went off it quite quickly and his baby brother has the slightly more normal name of Thomas.

HHHHmmmmmm!!!! Carrus? Well it depends on if it will go with your last name, and how you feel about it. Is it half carrot and half something else?? If you really dont want to go with that name, maybe something like conor and explain to him it begins with the same letter?? Its also important to remember how will the baby grow up with a different name. Good luck!!! PS I think its do-able, I ahve heard weirder!

dodgy ground here, so many children with way out names get stick from other kids. Will you risk your second child being the subject of bullying & knowing thet his/her older brother is responsible? Personally I don't think it's up to a child to pick a siblings name, you are the parent, it's your job. By all means have a familly discussion & take into account who likes or hates what, but the buck stops with you & the decision has to be lived with by your next child for a lifetime.

Mmmm....no. I would not let your toddler name the baby. If he were a few years older, maybe 9 or 10, possibly, but not at 4. Carrus sounds like he couldn't pronounce carrots properly.

It's OK actually.
The main thing is do you like it.

It's not half as daft as some of the names I hear children called( I work with health visitors and believe me there are some strange names out there!.)

I was born when my sister was six she wanted to call me "Jaffitha" my mother told her it was ridiculous.
Years later she revealed she had meant Jennifer but hadn't been able to say it properly.
She has recently had a baby herself called ....Jennifer so she got her wish, 37 years late!!

That is so cute that your toddler feels he is part of the decision! and congrats to you for making him feel involved.

Do You like the name? could you see yourself calling out that name for the rest of your life?

personally I would suggest, making that the babys nickname .. its a fun name that will be carried with pride by your toddler, your baby and you, but the baby would have a "real" name for the rest of the world and Birth Certificate.
