I have rabbits in my back yard and the leaves are poisonous to them. I'd like to put them in pots in the landscaped area of our front (urban area CC&Rized) yard. There is nothing written against it... but I don't want the front yard to look Odd.

This website lists Tomato Vines and Leaves as toxic to rabbits. I've seen tomato leaves and vines listed as poisonous to rabbits in many Rabbit care books. I've been cautioned by my vet, not to let my rabbits run in the yard if they can get to the tomato plants easily. Tomato Fruits are not toxic, but the plant itself should be avoided.

Also, rabbits do NOT instintively know what plants aren't good for them.
"Many people believe that a bunny browsing in the yard will instinctively avoid poisonous plants. Having watched a rabbit munch on an oleander leaf, I can attest this is not so! We advise making a list of all plants growing in the yard, and checking the list for poisonous plants. " (from this website: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/hazards.html )

Just put them in a nice big planter, and try not to use any thing too tacky to tie up the plants with.

Nothn' like fresh tomatoes you grow yourself!

The leaves are not poisonous to them. I have rabbits in my yard too and they eat my tomatoes all the time. Growing them in the front yard is a very cool thing and popular in many areas

Put them anywhere you want. If among other landscape, they can look good if planted in same color, shape and size pots.
Actually, I have never had rabbits go after tomatoes, but I grow in pots so that may be why.

I say yes. Europeans considered tomatos to be decorative plants for about 200 years before they started to eat them. They would be great accented by sunflowers and purple fennel -another decorative and useful plant. Herbs can also be mixed in with a flower garden. There is no reason your front gardens can be practical as well. Smart thinking! :)

Put the tomato plants toward the back of your landscaped area-as long as they get enough light-they should look and taste great!

i think of he ought to have the skill to do despite the fact that he needs together with his very own belongings. How might you like it if it become only desperate that lawns have been grotesque and you had to purely have dirt on your front backyard. possibly this is the only way he can arise with the money for to consume, or maybe he's giving the nutrition away to the needy. each inch of obtainable land must be used for nutrition if obtainable.

Hey, its your front yard. If you want to grow corn out there you should be able to. :) If they are in pots you could tastefully arrange them to look good. Good luck and have lots of yummy tomato sandwiches this summer!!
