In the United States, Independence Day (commonly known as "the Fourth of July" or "July Fourth") is a federal holiday celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Independence Day is commonly associated with parades, barbecues, beer, picnics, baseball games, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Fireworks have been associated with the Fourth of July since 1777.

World war in the sense that Spain and France allied with the Americans (if you could really call that a World War).

Definitley a Civil War by all means. Most of the fighting was done between Americans themselves.. in fact up to a third of Americans were loyalists at that time.

It created two nations - The USA (obviuosly), nad Canada (who remained loyal to Britan, and who housed all the American loyalists... hence why there is an English Canada now).

The main loser in the war - Native Americans. Although white rich Americans benefited enormously, Native Americans saw the expansion of the "colonies" previously forbidden by the British before them. Slaves also had it bad, as the British Empire about 60 years later outlawed slavery.. a practice not outlawed for a bout 100 years in the South after the revolution.

Pretty much the first time since the Magna Carta was signed (about 1215 AD) that progress was truly made for individual rights and freedoms. All told, a cataclysmic shift for personal liberty in the annals of history.
