hey we all make errors in judgement...if I felt I have done something that I need to say I am sorry for, I just come out and say I am sorry...believe me we all make mistakes...tell your friend to not be so hard on themselves, make amends and then let it go...your friend sounds like a very nice person so it all works out in the end...plus you are a good friend :)

Saying "I'm sorry" would be a good start.
