Some slave owners, at times, freed their slaves rewarding them for outstanding service. However, many of them were caught by cruel traders or other plantation owners, their papers stolen, and were re-subjugated into slavery.

PS Even though this word does not technically exist, it's use is not incorrect. Once it's usage becomes widespread it becomes accepted into the dictionary revisions.

To subjugate is to bring under control, to make something subject to your will.

To "re" something means to do it again, however there is no such word as resubjugate. You could use, for example:

He wanted to subjugate his wife yet again, as she had developed her own mind.

She wanted to newly subjugate the staff in to doing as they were told.

They tried to recurrently subjugate those countries who were not obedient to the new laws.

You could possibly use re-subjugate, although it is technically not correct, it is a method used to make a word fit in to the use you want it for. I would try to avoid doing this if possible and stick to words you will find in a dictionary :) When it's not possible though, you can use "re-" to adapt a word.
