I think it's because they know they don't have to. What is society??A large group of people who tell you what it right and wrong and how to be. I think free speaking, thinking and acting people have more fun, more luck, more talent, and more to offer than society. The interest of society always remains the same...nothing ever changes. I myself have never liked being a sheep.

I think you would have to define the social norm first, and then look at which characteristics those misfits have different from the rest of society. I think all of us have the desire for social contact on some level, and so I would question the validity of stating that people don't want to fit in. I think fitting in begins early on in school years when little humans are playing social games to determine who will fill the roles of alphas and omegas in the social hierarchy of humans. Some of us, by way of poverty, religion, intellectual ability or lack thereof, physical ability, attractiveness and a vast array of other factors end up on the lower rungs and don't like it and tell the rest of society to take a flying fig.

sigh

What sort of people do you have in mind?

My honest opinion on this very, very vague question is -- why SHOULD everyone have to fit into society?

If you're referring to people who don't want to act exactly the same as everyone else -- otherwise, I'd need to know what you're asking about in order to give my opinion on it.

But what society are you referring to? There are many segments of society. High society. The drug culture. The free loader. The emotionally repressed.

By my response you can see how diverse society is. We tend to gravitate to others who are like ourselves. No one is having a truly unique experience. Someone has felt it, done it or been there before so we can all relate.

thats a realy broad question because realy wat dose it mean to fit into society i mean im 18 i work construction and travel all around the country building things i dont have a gf and havnt had one for like 8 month now i dont fit into the norm of what most 18 year old are like because i realy enjoy wat i do and "fitting in" just wasnt for me i liked being a little diffrent. And im not gay or anything i like girls i just dont want to change and i havnt found one that understands that

But i think the real reason people dont wana fit in is because they enjoy being the way they are and they dont need society to acept them because they are comfortable with them selvs

some times i wonder the same thing...
but if you turn the question around...
> why does the society reject people with different views or ways?? making it harder to fit in.

for example. i am a malay-malaysian. i eat with my hands.. its my culture. I had my rice lunch with my hand in the office's kitchen.(obviously i washed my hands). Then an old lady (some one who work there)came up to me and said.. ''we dont eat with our hand!''.

well this is my culture... why cant i east with my hand? why do i have to be like YOU..
i like eating with my hands...

I accept them because i am just like them. We live in an infected society. I prefer to dive inside me and live in my own Utopia.
