OUR DOG CAME IN HEAT THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER AND WE DECIDED TO WAIT UNTIL SPRING TO BREED HER, THINKING THAT IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE PUPPIES WARM AND EVERYTHING IN THE WINTER. WELL ABOUT TWO MONTHS OR SO AFTER HER HEAT SHE HAD A FALSE PREGNANCY, MILK AND ALL! AND NOW THAT WE ARE READY TO BREED HER SHE IS NOT COMING IN HEAT. IS IT THE FALSE PREGNANCY THAT IS MAKING HER LATE? WHEN CAN I EXPECT IT? I AM SO EXCITED TO HAVE PUPPIES! PLEASE HELP!

Dogs come into heat every 6 to 8 months. When you get into the false heats then things can get tricky.

A few years ago I used to breed German Shepherds. I found that if I had one female go into heat the others would follow soon after. That's when I experienced the false heats.

One of the first signs of your dog going into heat is she will swell a little. Try and breed her every 2 days starting at the 10th day of her heat until she doesn't want the male anymore.

Good luck

Yes a female will come into heat every six months like clock work unless she has been bred.
What I mean is the female will come into heat. She's not bred the first heat but six months later she is bred at that "heat" cycle.
60-62 days later she has her litter and then is nursing for approx.5-6 weeks.
At the end of the weening I believe you can now start counting the months for 6 months to pass and then the "heat" cycle begins again.
Is this clear as mud?
I would suspect that as soon as the lactation phase of the false pregnancy stopped on your Retreiver you could start counting the months as they go by until you have reached the six month period.
My female mutt (Border Collie/Chow mix) never had a false pregnancy but as a good measuring tool I used this method to determine when she came into heat because I didn't want anymore than the two litters she had had and I struggled through with this method until we got her spayed.

You did not mention the breed of dog. Generally, female dogs come into heat twice a year. A week coming in a week in and a week going. The only thing that speeds the process is if you breed them it then cuts the heat in about half. Some small breed dogs have a lot of false pregnancies, my little dachshund did regularly. In fact, she refused males and was almost constantly having a false pregnancy and would take little stuffed animals and put them on her little milkbag. Have your vet check your dog to make sure everything is functioning correctly.-good luck -k-

Dogs come into estrus (or "heat") every 6 months. I would have that false pregnancy checked by a vet. It may be a tumor or cyst on the ovary. Also, is this dog a pure breed animal and are you professional breeders? If it is just a "mutt" that is your pet, then don't breed it just for the sake of having puppies. There are thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens destroyed every year. Get it spayed.

B1tches usually come into season at the same time as normal after they've had a real litter, so a false pregnancy shouldn't make any difference. Does she normally come into season every six months exactly? Not many dogs do. You'll just have to be patient.

What breed of dog is she? That will help determine how often she comes in heat. There are other variables as well. Post the type of dog, and I'll give more info. The rule of thumb, however, is that they come in heat every six months or so. Good luck! :)

specific spaying her will provide up her from having doggies, that's the wonderful element of do because of the fact if she did mate & it grew to become into with a greater canines the doggies ought to finally end up being to significant and kill her. Your vet ought to attend till she is out of warmth to spay although, additionally canines could additionally carry stds so she must be checked for that as properly. Now for the rushing out the door if she did it as quickly as she is able to doing it back, so no doors opened except she is contained. additionally as quickly as she is spayed that's somewhat useful to look into some trouble-free obedience training & artwork extra beneficial no longer ordinary on come, wait & stay. additionally the snapping should not be tolerated in any respect!!! to your daughters secure practices please do no longer permit her around the canines un-supervised, yet having pronounced that this is going for all canines & infants.
