You usually ovulate somewhere around the14th day before the first day of your next anticipated period. Keep in mind that this is only a guideline for women who have super-regular periods. Know that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days too.

If you are asking because you want to have unprotected sex and not get pregnant, then forget it and get some condoms. You can get pregnant by having sex on any day of the month, including before, during and after your period. You are *more likely* to get pregnant when you ovulate, at around the 14th day after the start of your period, but that doen't mean you can't get pregnant at any other time. Sperm can survive for up to a week.

They don't go by the last day--they go by the first day.

In very regular cycles (28-30 days) you are fertile around the 14th day after the FIRST day of your menstrual cycle. We give it a couple of days on each side of that 14th day, too.
