Yea i agree but i am emo and goth. People think that they dress and act alike but we dont. Emos are like sensitive and emotional and goths are dark and like morbid. Plus people think emos and goths are likely to self harm, but wer're not. Overall im a very happy person and have not once considered suicide or cutting.

I agree. I had both a goth and an emo phase during high school- and they were different things and different times in my life. They came about for different reasons. I think of goth as being a way of life; liking a certain type of clothing, music, movies, etc. Emo is similar in that aspect, but different in the sense that most goth people are perfectly happy with who they are; a lot of emo people are emo because they are unhappy with life in general. Just my opinion on how I see it, but yeah I agree.

goths and emos are in many circumstances an analogous yet emos are much less darkish and extra harry potter (stripes). goths likes the darker area of issues and picture alot all and sundry who thinks that thats all there is to a emo or goth is in basic terms undeniable stupid! this is stereotyping you prejudice fools... no longer all emos are whiny little f**ks, and not all goths are captivated with violence

I agree that they are different subcultures. Most people rely heavily on stereotypes and they think that they are the same thing. Even you are relying on stereotypes at the current moment by stereotyping Goth and Emo subcultures. Just ignore the people who confuse them if they will not listen after you correct them.

Okay, I can't stand stereotypes and I just don't understand it. Why throw yourself into a stereotype, "Goth", "Prep" or "Emo" in the first place?

Why can't people just be who they are?

You love heavy metal, same here I'm definitely a fan

. But just because I love heavy metal doesn't mean that I don't or can't like "emotional" music or like to shop at Hollister.

Lots of people just say I'm "Emo" -- WTF, why just be "Emo". Or just be one stupid, boring stereotype?

How unique is that, stepping up and dressing and doing whatever a stereotypical "Emo" does.

Why not enjoy what you enjoy, do what you want, shop where ever the hell you want and that be fricken peachy because all that stuff is who you are, not a fricken stereotype!

It takes a bigger person to step out of the stereotype and be "original".

Sorry I didn't mean to completely rant here, I just really really hate it.

i'm a goth, and have been for over 10 years now..... Emo seems to be yet another label that the media have recently invented to divide music fans into neat little catagories.... personally, i don't give a damn about all these labels. the thing that matters to me is the music.

Emo came from punk, not goth.
Goth's also a type of punk.
They have similar roots and look similar but have different tastes in music and mentality, emos are whiny, depressed, suicidal and more likely to self harm. Goths are individualist, romantic, intellectual and creative.

emo is the stereotype that came from goth,,,its not as serious, kind of like a smaller part of goth. and this is bound to lead to goths classified as emo and vice versa

I agree. People don't care to know the difference so it's all the same to them.
