It would save a lot of money on health care. More people would live a longer, healthier life. Less pollution - no butts all over the place.
As for the tobacco companies? No change. They have stated that there are enough smokers in China alone to allow the rest of the world to give up without majorly affecting profits.
The sooner it is banned, the better.

The government doesn't have the right to ban smoking but they are along with other rights they have no business taking away.
Why should the government tell a privately owned bar they are not allowed to allow smoking? And then they are going to ban smoking in your own home. Don't ask me how but they have been trying to pass it for years and they will.
I want a free ticket to another country while everyone is going through withdraw because I don't want to deal with the grouchiness smokers go through when they try and quit and everyone at once---yikes!

non smokers that say good don't realize today cigarettes tomorrow---fast food, donuts, and who knows what else
because they get away with this they have gained the power to do worse.

Well, I don't know about other countries but in the U.S., the economies of several tobacco growing states would collapse and the states would need millions in disaster funds from the Government....

All of the states would lose billions in tax revenues and would need assistance... (Texas alone collects 1 BILLION in tobacco taxes every year).

These states would have to quickly replace these lost tax dollars. They would need to raise taxes on other things.....perhaps gasoline or liquor or candy bars or fast food or personal income tax....

Best to leave a sleeping dog lie. Smoking is a personal choice and has nothing to do with your freedoms.

They would create a hugh black market for tobacco products. Crime would increase and respect for the law decrease. Smugglers would have more jobs. Gangs would grow with the new product line to sell. Legal business would be less profitable. Social costs would sky rocket as people live longer. Tax revenues would drop. All and all a bad deal

Well the price of tobacco companies stock would plummet, and the health costs would go down as well. Folks would be healthier, but you would have some folks utilizing the black market to obtain their tobacco, if it were totally illegal.

It would mean the liberals would be in control of congress and the White House and Al Gore had sold all his land that he grows tobacco on.

Cigarettes and tobacco would become another control substance (illegal drug). Supply would decrease, costs would increase, and age restrictions would be eliminated.

Outlawing a substance entirely is very different than saying it cannot be used in public.

Death and destruction as the smokers rebelled and killed all who stood in their way. Also many farmers and factory workers whould be on welfare when the jobs from tobacco went away

If somehow a bill like that did pass (most unlikely) it would be overturned by the supreme court. It would be considered an infringement on personal rights.

i would be ecstatic..i think it's a disgusting habit that only helps Big Tobacco..

yes, i agree that it is a free-choice matter but since we all breath in what cigarettes put out because people smoke in public, i think it should be something done either in the privacy of your own home or in your car..

however, I'm not so sure it should be made illegal..i think it would be similar to the people's reaction during prohibition...there should be a place for people to smoke that won't effect non-smokers.
