I've been put under 6 times. I was never afraid that I would die, but I was afraid of waking up during the surgery. I had 2 operations on the muscles behind my left eye. They got to those muscles by cutting right through my eyeball. I was afraid that I would wake up with a scalpel in my eye. Everything turned out fine though. I really don't think that anesthesia is that dangerous anymore.

I had to be completely put under for dental surgery last year. The whole time before I went to sleep I kept thinking about this show I saw on Discovery Health, about people who swear they were awake during surgery, but they were paralyzed and couldn't make a sound to let people know they were awake.

oh! "How long can I hold my breath this time?" (if they're giving you pure O2, you can go for like four mins!!) But that was for wisdom teeth, which I guess isn't that major.
