How soon can I test? Well, first you gotta know how the test works. Briefly: the home pregnancy test (HPT) works by detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG.) When an egg is fertilized, it takes about 6 to 12 days to implant in the uterus, and then it begins to secrete hCG. It takes another day or two for enough hCG to build up and make its way into your pee. So, generally speaking, the earliest you can expect a positive HPT is 8 days past ovulation ("DPO") and the latest would be about 16 DPO. It is possible to get a positive test earlier or later, but not as common. In my experience, if you use a sensitive "early" test (anything that detects 25 mIU/mL of hCG or less) you can test around 12-14 DPO and feel reasonably secure with your results (the later you test, the more secure you can feel in its accuracy.)

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

If you have unprotected sex, there is always a possibility of getting pregnant!

Go to the store, there are some tests that you can take up to a week before your period is even due. I wouldn't rely to heavily on the first test though. Make sure you retest in a couple of weeks or go to the doctor for blood tests.

Are you trying to get pregnant? You didn't mention if you are trying. If no, then take a trip over to your local health department, or planned parenthood and pick up some birth control!

You can take some tests a few days before your missed period. But do not always trust them. I am 20 wks 4 days. Mine came up negative until the end of November. Right before Thanksgiving. I was pregnant the end of Sept. beginning of Oct.. Not exactly sure, they are twins so they are smaller. Best way is to go to the DR. or ER and have a blood test. Now my other four pregnacies were right. MY 2nd son we tried and two weeks later it was positive.

You could take a pregnancy test 5 days before your period. By using the First Response.. That really works!!! I am speaking from personal experience.. I took the test before I missed my period and I found out that I was pregnant, now I have a 4mth old son... Good Luck to you!!!!

A pretty good possibility....Mine never *ever* showed up positive until the day I was actually due to start - and I always knew the day I got pregnant - due to implantation bleeding...(and the rest is a long story).

There is one that says you can do it 5 days before you're due to start - but don't be surprised if it shows up negative till the 20th.

(by the way - even blood testing would not show positive until I was actually supposed to start my period - docs would argue I wasn't pregnant - but I knew I was).

if you arent supposed to start until the 20th then the soonest you can take an average preg test would be march 21st they do have that new test that you can take five days sooner but it may not be as accurate. ive had two kids my little one is 2 months and if you take the test even a day sooner than recommended it may not be correct

yea there could be a possibility, but you can take a first response pregnancy test five days before your missed or expected period. other pregnancy test work better after a missed period.

attempt sooner or later after your era is meant to start. it particularly is the universal rule for those tests. attempt and purchase a being pregnant attempt that comprise 2 tests. That way you are able to take the 2nd attempt a pair days later, purely to be on the secure factor.
