What injustices have men had to overcome that would merit an entire field of study?

This is an old rant, and one that is completely false.

Check your facts next time, buddy.

This is a misconception that I've answered here repeatedly in the past few months. So, here we go again.

There is an academic area called Men's Studies. Not only that, but there are all kinds of men, including myself, in all sorts of scientific disciplines who study men and masculinity. Of course, we realize that we cannot do so without the keen insights of feminist theory (ahh, there's the rub!). All kinds of gender issues (men, women, sexuality, etc.) get discussed under the rubric of Women's Studies (maybe a yahoo section called gender studies would be useful, but any study of gender that doesn't acknowledge sexual inequality doesn't take us very far anyway). And, by the way, because the most informative studies of men and masculinity have largely emerged out of, or been influenced by, research conducted under the rubric of women's studies and feminist theory.

The idea that you can discuss men's issues separate from women's issues is misleading. Gender is a relational identity. And, as we have seen, a men's movement that is unaware of how feminism has contributed to our understanding of the construction of gender identities reproduces inequalities based on sex. A discussion of men's issues that avoid the realities of power relations in society easily degenerate into misogynist movements that defend a single, unitary and hegemonic idea of 'what it is to be a man' which ignores the social reality that most men face. There are a lot of different ways of being a man out there, and there are a lot of different kinds of men.

There certainly should be more discussions concerning men and masculinity, as long as this doesn't revert to some chest-banging defense of some mythical, macho past.

Men in general are not ready to listen to those that are wiser. That is why the world is in such decay. I hate to tell my fellow man their ignorance is the world's undoing.

20 years ago I had a very wise gentleman to tell me I would be a much better person if I would just listen to other people every once and a while. I ask him how should I change for the better? He said just let the people that care about you contribute to your life.

Well as the years have passed I realized I would have been much better off if I would have let a few extraordinary people give me good advice. My ego got in the way and I suffered the consequences just like all other men that think they have all the answers. The fact is we don't have all the answer is why our lives are in such shambles but we act like we are the wisest minds on the planet at the expense of those that trust us.

Ego, pride, and ignorance are at the heart of all men that think he is an island. Just remember all the men that have real power in this world is not listening to anybody else either so they will plunge us into total hell that all other ego driven men will suffer just like everyone else. Men have not evolved above their petty egos and pride driven actions. I have found that every big fall I experienced preceded the moments of my being stuck in my biggest ego driven pride.

You talk about men's study. Seek and you shall find. Most groups that are here to really help men will not tolerate the egos of small-minded men. They don't have time to fight the will of the closed-minded.

"This way men can post their nasty observations about women in a forum that females can avoid."

Don't count on it; if it were created, I'm sure misogynists would still flock here and misandrists would go over to the other board. It's the Internet; such things are to be expected.

I don't think there will ever be a Men's Studies; it will probably remain Women's Studies.

rofl.

Women only get their own studies because they were oppressed by the men for centuries. Now it is your turn to be oppressed.

Mwahahaha.

I hope they decide to start one soon. This way men can post their nasty observations about women in a forum that females can avoid. The misogynists that plague women's studies will have their own venue to flaunt their inadequacies and bitterness.
