this is not a very old machine and the same thing happen to the last machine. It also gets mouldy near where the powder should be put, although I do not use washing powder but prefer liquid which goes in with the washing.

many thanks.

try washing it out. I take mine out once a week & wash it in warm soapy water. I also run a maintenance wash on my machine. Put the normal amount of detergent in, with an empty drum & put it onto the longest cycle. It keeps it smelling fresh, as well as helping to clear out any small blockages from the pipes.

liquid is the worse thing for washing machine's particular as most people don't use a higher temperature setting, the other reason for the soap drawer smelling is the poor quality of the water, there are so many impurities in it these days. Rinse the soap drawer out on a regular basis, and while you've the draw out get a long brush and clean the top of the outer drawer. finally use a hotter program every couple of weeks.

The answers that say to use vinegar are right!
• Eliminate undissolved lint and detergent in a washing machine by using white vinegar. Pour 1-cup of vinegar into the bottom of the washing machine tub and run through the normal cycle, without clothes, using the hot water setting.

Seems like you have a buildup of that greasy gunge from detergents. The gunge then goes rancid.....and stinks!!!! Get a bag of washing soda fro Asda/Tesco, (55 pence)throw the whole bag in, do a very hot wash.....clears all the gunge, including your drain run (common to both machines???) maybe, do this twice.... My machine was Yuk, now sparkling.

Very humid environment + not being washed out with detergent now and then = musty.

Someone else suggested for a similar problem running a water-only wash with white vinegar (no clothes! just let it cycle) and pour some of the vinegar down that dispenser port as well.

You said it smelled moldy...well it is probably mold you smell. Fill your washer up with the hottest cycle, add bleach (1/2 bottle or so). Let the cycle run as usual. You may want to do this twice with bleach before you do another load of laundry. This will clean out your tub and the odor should vanish.

You need to remove it and give it a good wash to remove any scum. Do this regularly and it keeps it fresh. Also if you live in a hard water area, it is a good idea to do a boil wash with a calgon tablet about once a month.

The liquid soap does that to washers you have to clean them out on a regular basis use bleach then rinse like you have a load in and leave the lid up after each load to help dry out.

My washer gets a terrible smell about once a month so what I got into doing is a load full of water and about 4L of white vineger, no soap, and it gets rid of the smell altogether. Good luck!

Run the washer with a cup of white vinegar in place of your liquid soap.
