... in school or university. Or other teachers like music or dance teachers. What do you think makes a great teacher. Or even a great guru? Please say why?

The reason I ask is that there is so much discussion in the air about civilisation falling and the parallel fall in the level of education. I decided to ask a few questions and see how people who really like their teachers think about the whole subject.

Thank you for whatever you wish to share!
Peace & Love

I don't think I was really impressed with any of my school teachers. But I was rather affected by a US professor teaching investments. He stressed the value of fundamental analysis of companies based on the value of their operation, not how attractive the stock price is. I still use the method to date, and I owe all of any success I have to him............ The shame is I don't even remember his name :(

My favorite teacher was my computer teacher Mrs. H.

She was a great teacher, in my opinion, because she was fair. She understood that some of the material was very boring, and would make it into games for us. She understood that some of us could not keep up, as we didn't have computers in our homes to practice on, so she graded us individually, rather than setting a strict standard that covered everyone.

When I was in university I had a lot of good teachers/ professors/ lecturers ... but there were two that stood out...because they were not timid about saying .."Look, this is what I did, and this is why it was a mistake." They told us what they had done WRONG .... and from these 'admissions of error' WE learned. It is very easy for someone to say..."Let me tell you about my successes". It is far more difficult...to say "I REALLY messed this up!"....but in doing so you learn how NOT to 'mess' it up. The subject in question was a branch of medicine....so it was even more difficult for the 'teacher' to admit to ...and accept responsibility for....his/her 'errors'.

When I was at primary school, our teacher took our swimming lesson as the instructor was off sick. Someone pushed me in the pool and I couldn't swim. He stood at the side of the pool telling me I was swimming like a fish! My two friends had to pull me to the shallow end. A couple of weeks later we found a bottle of whiskey in his cupboard and surprisingly he got the sack! I'll never forger Mr. Bradley!
