My son just got admitted into USM in Hattiesburg, MS. We need to find a nice hotel in a nice section of town. Don't know the city. Any advice? Thanks.

The nicest location is going to be the Holiday Inn location at I-59 and Hwy 49...this used to be a Hawthorne Suites hotel and is very nice. If you want to be in the center of most of the restaurants and shopping, stay at either the Comfort Suites or Baymont Inn on the west side of I-59. Avoid any of the hotels on Hardy Street or Hwy 49, south of the Interstate, they are overused and very old.
Contact the Hattiesburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and they can send you maps, brochures and anything else you want....

I grew up in Hattiesburg and it is a wonderful place. I hope that you enjoy your stay here. Good luck on finding a hotel the suggestions that the guy above me made are great. I would have said those too!

Looks like there's a Fairfield Inn and Baymont Suites there, which are all-around good chains no matter where you go.
