i got my license and of course want a car. I've been saving up for a car for 2 years now. I want to use my dad's 1999 Pontiac grand prix gt, but of coursse he won't let me. I'm so embarrassed to be seen driving around in my mom's Mini van. It costs more for gas and it has so many scratchs and scrapes from when my aunt owned it. It also looks awkward when people ask why there is shampoo, many books, 6 pack of 8-ounce Pepsis, and a big carton of cigarettes. My mom is a nurseing aid at a retirement home fyi. Should I consider driving it or just wait a couple more years will I get enuogh money for a car?

As a young teen, it is kinda awkward to drive a car like that, while it is also a gasoline thirsted vampire... i rather take the bus... save for couple more yr, well, used Domestic cars are not that expensive, you can find one in pretty good shape at the price of $5000, so save up more rather than spend on the mini van, which you atually doesn't like. Van are for use, not for cruise...

Why would you be embarrassed n the first place it isn't costing you any money and sometime its good for the ego not to get what we want . Its like what are my wants and what are my real needs ? And it will give a chance to save money to get what you would like later . Always remember a car isn't an appreciating asset but a loosing value asset and the end it isn't worth anything . Save your money and drive something that is really affordable .

Drive it when you must but put some serious effort into saving up.
There are two things that you are pondering and young guys like you don't separate them untl you are driving for a while. They are:
1) Transportation
2) Image
It would be nice to have both in one package, but when you need #1 it doesn't matter.
Now to your friends, you need to say, "Yeah, I thought about getting a sports car but the most of the girls I date say they like doing it in a van because I make them so crazy they have more room to move around while having sex."

It's a mini van, mate.
Just the fact that it's got the brand mini on the wing makes it pretty damn groovy.
