It's a Dell and is 3 yrs old. It's really slow, it takes forever for pages to load, crashe, and freezes constantly. It says it has low virtual memory (I guess I need more RAM? no idea) I always have to end up pushing the start button to close the comp, because the browsers are always frozen. And also the internet browsers won't pop up (look at my other question)

And If I do get a new compter, what should I do to prevent all this from happening again? It's sannoying and frusturating having such a slow and retarted computer....

Help! And thanks =) No stupid comments plz =P

Go to http://www.crucial.com and run the system scanner. If you have 256Mb or less, then increasing the memory will be a dramatic improvement. Three years old though is about the end of a useful life, you may want to think about getting a new one rather than investing in memory. Keep the old one and load Linux on it to learn.

If it is 3 yrs old, I really doubt you need a new Computer. Alot of people might say you do, but the hell with them. I have a 6 or 7 year old laptop that works fine, besides from being a little slow and out of date. Theres all kinds of things that can be causing those problems. It could be a Virus, or Spyware. You may badly need to defragment the PC. It may have alot of crap in the registry. Your browser might be screwy...etc. Theres ways to fix this besides buying a new PC. Email me if you need any help whatsoever.

Do you have Windows XP ?

Try two things...............

#1 Disc Cleanup..

Click start
all programs
accessories
system tools
disc cleanup

When dialogue box comes up with your drive letter, click OK

Wait many minutes while it analyses your computer.
A box will come up showing how much space that can be saved...Click OK/yes
another box will come up asking "are you sure" Click OK/yes

after many minutes it will go away and you are finished
This is probably your problem solved But..........

#2 Disc Defragmentor

Click Start
All programs
accessories
system tools
Disc defragmentor

A page will come up showing spaced used and available on your hard drive,

Highlight your hard drive letter
Click analyze

When it have done that, one of two boxes with flash on screen
You Do NOT need to degragment this file.....OR
you should Defragment this file

If you should defragment, click defragment and once it starts, go watch TV or take a shower , it will take awhile and needs to be left alone
when it is finished, click ok, or exit or whatever the options are to get out of the program

Your computer should run much better.

Do Disc Cleanup........ weekly
Disc Defragmenter....Monthly

Good luck

No you do not need more RAM. What you need is a bigger hard drive. It also sounds like you could use some defragging of the drive. Spend $150.00 and get a bigger Hard Drive.

Besides you might try kissing your computer and telling it that, "Yes you still love it." To thaw it out so it is not freezing all of the time!

It sounds like a simple case of spyware that is bogging down your computer. Remove the spyware and your system speed will return to normal. Try this free computer support site for instructions on how to remove spyware.

it sounds like you have no idea of how to look after a pc, they require maintenance just like your car does.
