My husband and I can't agree on what to name our second child (due this spring) I picked our first son's name so I told him he could pick this one... He wants to name our son something "rock related"
Stone or Slater
I'm afraid a boy named Stone will get teased with "Stone, the stoner!" etc. What do you think and are there any other "rock" names out there? haha thanks for your time

the reason for this is because he's in construction so he works with stone lol... I don't mind Slater it's cute, makes me think of the surfer but it's Stone that I don't like

I personally like Stone better then Slater. Slater is kinda 80ish and I don't, know it doesn't do much for me. Stone is a strong name. And as far as being called a stoner I wouldn't have thought of that but it is good that you think about what other kids will say, ithink with some of the name I've seen thrown out in these questions Stone will have the least of the problems in the classroom.

I personally think that Slater is a good name and Stone isn't bad either. Since it is something that your husband is eager to be involved with and also since the names that he's leaning toward have somekind of connection to him...then you should try to compimise. What's your husband's name? Maybe you could even incorporate his name somewhere in there. Sometimes it's nice to pass names down through generations.
Additionally, it's not uncommon for a child to have two middle names. I have a friend who has two middle names as do each of her 12 sibblings. You can put as many names on a birth certificate that you want.
Whatever you decide to choose, good luck to you!

Tell your husban that whatever name you name your child, your son will have to go through school and everything with that name for the rest of his life. If you name him something different, he may not want to be made fun of in school for it. Stick to something easy that people will be able to pronounce and not misspell. Kids hate it when people get their name wrong, it offends them. You could name your son after a rocker or maybe if you cant decide on one name, you choose the first name and let your husband choose the middle name. Please don't name your son Stone or Slater, save him the trouble for when he's a teenager.

How about Peter? It means "rock"...

Personally, I don't like Stone or Slater at all.... but I guess you did tell him he could name him... perhaps you could suggest other names to him or give him a baby names book and see if he gets attached to anything else?

I would not go with Stone. Kids would call him a stoner. Why make things more difficult than they need to be? I truthfully don't find Slater to be attractive at all, but it is slightly better than Stone.
Here are some suggestions I hope that you can convince your husband to change his mind:
Dunstan means "dark stone"
Mason would be perfect. It means "stoneworker"
Stanford is a surname meaning "stone ford"
Stanley means "stone clearing"
Sten is a Swedish name meaning "stone"
Winston means "joy stone"
Peter means "stone"
Kamen is a Bulgarian name meaning "stone"
Halstein is Norwegian and means both "rock" and "stone"

Whatever you name your child will stay with that child always, as will all the teasing he's going to get no matter what you name him. Pick a name that means something special or is for someone special in your life, so the child has a model to live up to.

I think both are fine. However, Slater makes me think of the character on Saved by the Bell.
