A few weeks ago my first ever printer I bought 6yrs ago blew up, and I had to buy a new one.
It's replacement is an Epson Stylus DX4000 bought off Amazon for £49.95 (£58.63 if you include having it sent by express courier), and it's the best printer I've ever used at either School, Home or a work placement.
Here it is:
http://astore.amazon.co.uk/jdaltpol_gaming-21/detail/B000HVA40I/203-9338484-3266364
You also need to buy the cable to hook it up to your computer seperately (it's common with nearly all printers & scanners)....... in this case a USB Type A to USB Type B, like this one: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/jdaltpol_gaming-21/detail/B00004Z5DD/203-9338484-3266364

The replacement ink cartridges can be bought seperately (Black, Yellow, Magenta + Cyan) for about £5, instead of 1 black cartridge & one colour cartridge (so if one colour runs out, you don't have to junk the rest even if they're still full)...... or in a pack of 4 for £20.

It prints out really clear, and pretty fast........ and will print digital pictures in photo quality (just as good or better than more expensive printers I've used in the past).
And it also has a built-in photo scanner, which soon cleared a backlog of pictures I've been wanting to scan for years........ and it's the fastest scanner I've ever used too - in auto mode I've timed it scanning a normal sized colour print @ 600dpi in 1minute flat - and does it better than the ones I've had done by Kodak Photolabs when getting a picture CD at the same time I've had my films developped.

Works great as a photocopier too........ don't even have to switch on the computer to use that function.

Definately got to be an hp all in one. I have a psc750 for about 3 years now and its been a great machine. Cartridges are dirt cheap from asda if you live in uk and you can re-fill them as well. Last for ages. Only buy an epson if you do lots of photos. You can't re-fill their cartridges unless you can re-set the chip and not all compatibles work as epson want you to buy their ridiculouly priced cartridges. Could definately recommend hp and we use hp laser printers at work but the cartrdiges are very expensive.

maximum of those older printers can' t artwork with Vista. examine on Lexmark internet site for the drivers to your printer. in the event that they do no longer seem to be there. you ought to nevertheless use the printer and share it out on a domicile windows XP previous computing device own laptop or computing device you have have been given around. If no longer then get HP F4135 all-in-one from Wal-mart or Samsclub they vary from $40 3 to $40 8 yet you get lots extra to your money than you probably did before plus those instruments are quicker they making use of USB2 and artwork with Vista or XP. i understand I somewhat have one among them i take advantage of.

On choosing a printer, check how much it will cost for replacement cartridges, be it the manufacturers or compatable as this can prove expensive.

either HP or Canon they are both great. HP is very good for photo printing like full page photos. the reason Canon's ink tanks (some people call them ink cartridges) are cheap is because when you replace them you aren't replacing the ink head just the ink.
