I live in the UK and I tried AOL anti-virus. It caused me problems so I uninstalled it. I now use AVG Free 7.5 instead.
AOL a-v should be very good, it's a 'lite' version of the highly recommended Kaspersky anti-virus.
After installation I lost access to the internet. I think the software intercepts all internet access to keep you safe. I didn't try to resolve the problems I just got rid.
If you have Windows XP take a restore point before installing AOL a-v. If it won't uninstall cleanly (it didn't for me) you can use this to restore your system to just before you installed AOL a-v. This is the only way I could get rid of it. My PC is up to date (Windows XP SP2 plus all the latest fixes) so don't know why I hit problems.

I personally use AOL Anti-Virus Shield and I think it's great. It comes with the free AOL Security Center that I downloaded. I find it very reliable however, it does slow down the start-up time.

I wouldn't use anything that is integrated into the America Online application. I'm sure it has practical uses, though. However, it would be much better if you downloaded a free Anti Virus program online.

I personally recommend zonealarm anti virus. It was voted best antivirus and firewall by pc magazine. I've used it for 2 years and have never gotten a virus and i download alot of stuff.
It cost 19.95 a year and you don't have to worry about anything.

AOL is a virus! its can only be deleated by re-formatting your hard drive. If you use it, it too late, you have the worse virus on the net!
