Backing out on a house that I put a bid on and signed a contract. Very expensive lesson when I lost the money to hold the house.

My most expensive error had nothing to do with money. It was my marriage, even though it wasn't money I lost, I lost something more valuable.. I lost who I was.. can't put a dollar figure on that

too long to explain but involves staking two roads 5 different times and widths..5th was go stake Nobel Drive full width...(82' was ultimate width but original design..IE plan called for 56'...learned later they meant full width per PLAN. 56' I naturally staked 82' ultimate full width...which by the way we winded up building Regents Road 82' ultimate width!!) ended up in drain redesigns...water pipe changes and of course the 21,000 cubic yards of earthwork that had been excavated..1300'+/- length by avg 12-14' depth of material by the 26' increased width of excavation..backcharge came in at $21,000..or $1 per extra excavated cu yd. so sure I was getting fired I arranged a mid-week visit to brothers 650 miles away...but spoke with owner of firm Tues...(we received the extra on Mon) and after my explanation and shared notes he said take your trip and your next check will reflect a $1 hrly raise.. it reflected their satisfaction with my work thus far...as I said I was POSITIVE they were firing me! .I was pretty much in shock...
