I have to do a paper on it and i cant find 3 REALLY good reasons on it...

It was the first deliberate and concerted effort to combat images and stereotypes perpetuated by media and held as common beliefs by most white people.

The Harlem Renaissance gave African-Americans a voice for the first time--the movement perpetuates itself even today in the spoken word Poetry movement.

Some of the best and most unique "American" poetry emerged from the movement, as well as what we now call Jazz.

I don't know much but you might look up a group of artist that were in the area at the time. I cannot quite remember the name but they did help in the resurgenge of black art. The main answer you'll probably find is that it gave the black community self- strength. they were able to grasp an identity based on their african roots and use it to empower their communities. I don't know....go off that.
