A coke addict doesn't quit cold turkey. He needs help and rehab or he might fall back into its months or years down the road. Also make sure he stops interacting with the friends who got him into this mess in the first place. If he keeps hanging out with them, he will never quit.

"short coke habit?" What the H_ll is that? He doesn't need you to minimize his habit for him. That definitely won't help. Minimizing is a form of denial. Denial is what keeps an addict an addict. He has one of the worse addictions he possibly could have chosen for himself. The odds are against him. Quiting won't even start for a year of abstinence. He may not be able to quit with or without help. It will take a miracle. You will have to decide when to cut him loose. That is the real thing you should be accepting. Chances are slim that he will quit. Rehab? Rehab is a joke. Let him deal with things on his own. Let him go into rehab alone, let him do the work. Helping him won't help him. He has to help himself and go into rehab without anyone's help. Never, ever give him any financial help whatsoever. He is probably going to lose this one.

It is possible for your son to quit his habit independently however his best chance of success is seeking the help of a professional. You state he has a short habit, but do not say how long he has been using, the amount he is using, or his reasons for using. How is he funding his habit? Are you giving him an allowance, or does he have his own income? If he contacts a local drug agency they will be able to assess his level of addiction, and develop a program to assist your son in quitting his cocaine habit. Only your son can decide when he is ready to quit, and it is important that you do not force your son into making a decision he is not ready to commit to. In the meantime, do not give him any money, and only provide him with the bare essentials. You do not state whether your son is in education, if he isn't, then maybe he needs to be filling his day with some structured activities to divert his time away from using drugs. He also needs to stay away from people who use drugs, and get rid of all drug paraphenalia he may possess. Trying to get clean on his own will be hard, but if he contacts a drug counsellor, they will teach your son how to overcome his addiction, and maximise his chances of staying clean.

It can be done, but it isn't easy, and people who try to recover on their own often relapse more often. A friend of mine tried quitting his cocaine habit. He was clean for six months; then he relapsed. Clean for four months after that, then relapsed again. The pressure of doing it alone it very hard on young people.
