California is my home state. It IS expensive to live here in terms of housing but there is a reason why it costs. It is one of the best places in the world to live no matter where you choose (beach towns, big cities, gold country, wine country, etc). Where else in the world do you have the best restaurants, progressive thinkers, great colleges, surfing as a high school sport elective, healthy living, the freshest produce and award-winning wine, perfect weather, a majestic mountain range, top notch skiing, ghost towns and gold digging, funky little beach towns, the best of the big cities, glorious national parks and the film industry? We even have the most famous amusement park. And all of this sits on miles and miles of scenic beaches and it is all in our back yard. But there is more. No matter where you go in the world you will find kind and friendly people; California is no exception. What you will also find here however is that people have not just a tolerance but an appreciation of our diverse population.

I have lived in many places all over the world and none of them compare to California. It is the only state with a lifestyle all its own and unless a person lives here they will not fully appreciate it nor will they understand it.

I did not read others answers as I wanted my answer to be mine. I was born in New England but I live in San Antonio TX. I decided to live here for a number of reasons. The multiplicity of different cultures, I did not want an all white or all German or all Irish. I felt that my children needed to be diverse and the best way of that happening was to raise them with it already. Another reason was the cost of living is much lower here than any other place that we have lived. An example is my house. I have 2400 sq. ft. 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 baths, nice house but my payment is under $1000 a month. I could keep going on and on but I will leave you with one more good reason, Just one word, "SNOW!"

I live in South Louisiana and I like it because everything is a party down here. Mardi gras, festivals and BBQ every weekend. You can get an alcoholic drink from a drive thru window, and take a to go cup when you leave a bar or club so you dont have to waste your beer! All the food is fried, every pick up has got a stocked ice chest in the back, and camo is hot! Yall come see!

North Carolina.

I like it pretty good. The state has a little of everything. Beaches and resorts to the east. In the middle we got the flatlands with farms and wide open spaces. In the west we have tall, high mountains where a person can go skiing, and enjoy the snow.

got a lot of history. some culture here and there. Good sports teams. good colleges. many areas with scientific research, corporate america, etc.

I guess that NC is my home.

I am from New York. I lived in the Adirondacks when I was growing up, then spent 14 years in western NY. There are many pretty places in NY and lots of things to see and do. But, it is very expensive and the taxes are insane.

I live in Florida. I like it now that I've become used to it - I moved here from Maine to take care of my grandparents. I like it because there's no snow or ice in the winter and the beaches here are sandy not rocky. And the fried chicken is awesome!!

Tennessee..... I love it here!

It's my parents heritage. Where they were born and raised. Nothing like a drive with them telling me all the old stories about their lives.
