I'll have to second the motion that getting XP is a far better choice than Vista. I've tried both, and XP is simply far more reliable and has less compatibility features.

HP isn't a terrible brand to buy from, and for what you're looking to do, this one should fit the bill. I've had a little experience with the DV6000 series and they seem to be fairly reliable notebooks, with the exception of the Celeron powered models.

However, I will go on ahead and tell you that this is going to arrive filled to the brim with junk software and software trials. This is a common thing with HP/Compaq laptops, so get ready to remove some bloatware when it arrives at your doorstep.

Looks absolutely fine for all the things you want - you may be even able to play a few games on it. It will play movies and internet easily.
I just hope you are able to make the most out of Windows Vista which I must admit was a real let down for me. But for the price you are paying this is a very good machine.

My number one pick would be a MacBook. But if you're going to go with a Windows machine, the one you're looking at is definitely well-equipped to do what you need it to do. However, the fact that it has Vista is a little unsettling... Try to find a notebook that runs Windows XP. Vista is essentially going to be today's Windows Me nightmare.
