I bought my first ball python yesterday (3.10.07.). Ive done a lot of research in advance but I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me.
Also, Ive heard your not supposed to handle the snake for the first weekso he can get used to its new home.
I plan on taking the snake out when i feed him.
Is that an exception for handling him during the first week?
(the pet store said it had been about a week since the last time he had eaten.)
Thanks in advance!

I would not handle him for several weeks . Feed only thawed mice so that your snake does not end up with worms or get bitten . And I would feed in his cage , he will be more likely to eat in his cage . Make sure you have the proper temps and fresh water .

I deffinetly know about ball pythons so trust me. always feed your ball python in a different cage or container because if you dont the snake will be in food-mode all the time he is in the cage. But if you use another container he'll only want to eat in that container. Also be sure you dont put his hiding place on the cool part of the cage your snake will get too cold. about the handeling problem he will be good to handel in a couple days.(never pick your snake up by the neck only by the base of the animal then you can pick it up where ever. Hope it helps.

You should not handle him for the first week, he probably won't eat in that time anyway so you should not need to worry about feeding him in the first week, if you do feed him in the first week that short time of handeling is fine.. After that time however, enjoy holding him, ball pythons are great pets, enjoy your snake.
