To get the slope, transform the equation into the standard format,

y = mx + b

m here is the slope.

OK, here goes...

6x + 9y = 8 to

9y = -6x + 8

so

y = -6/9 x + 8/9 = -2/3 x + 8/9

OK, the slope is -2/3 then.

I realize I'm being longwinded here, but you needed to see how to solve this on your own, too.

y = mx + b
where m = slope, b = y-intercept

9y = -6x + 8
y = (-6/9)x + 8/9

-6/9 = -2/3

therefore the slope = - 2/3

First, you need to convert this equation to slope-intercept form. Doing so will allow you to easily see what the slope is.

The form for slope-intercept form is: y = mx + b
whereas, m refers to slope and b refers to the y intercept.
So, for 6x + 9y = 8...you need to use algebra to solve for y.

First, get the 9y on one side by itself...
9y = -6x + 8

Second, divide everything by 9 to get y by itself...
y = -6/9x + 8 / 9

So...the slope is -6/9
This reduces to -2/3!

The slope of ax + by = c is -a/b

The slope of your equation is -6/9 = -2/3
