Realistically, it's been over for a couple weeks already in the West... it's just that the Av's have had a hot streak going which made them look like they may make a miracle run for the playoffs. Their enemy is time though... not just the teams ahead of them. They are simply running out of games to be able to catch up. I'd agree.. all the teams they are chasing, like Calg,Minn,SJ, Dall ... there's no way those teams are going to tank enough for Colorado to get in... even if Colorado was to play nearly perfect hockey in the last few weeks.

The "weakest" 2 teams of the top 8 in the West right now are Calgary and Minnesota and they are both on pace for 99 point seasons. I don't see any way for Colorado to get potentially another 25 points considering their remaining schedule over the last 13 games... they have too many tough games to even get close to that.

All that's left is for the top 8 in the West to battle it out for seeded positions.

There isn't a single weak team among the top 8 so every 1st round series should be excellent this year. I think this may be the best set of 8 teams in the West that we've ever seen... whoever comes out of the West is going to be a very deserving team (and likely bruised up) because that's a hell of a battle to beat 3 of any of those teams over a 7 game series.

No. The flames are certainly a tricky group that has stepped it up interior the 2nd a million/2 of the season. they have their problems, yet they gained't fold over, nor do I see Colorado enjoying that nicely down the stretch. they'll play one yet another two times until now the tip of the season and that they the two have comparable schedules. Calgary is a robust group with super management and that i think of that they are going to be struggling with for 5th place interior the standings quite than conflict.

They still get that stupid point but I think their hopes were pretty much shot even had they won. IMO, the west's playoff combatants have been set for awhile and I can't see that changing. Calgary/Minny/SJ/Dallas are all too good to fold and I think they are all better than Colorado as the standings would suggest. Their only saving grace is that they are chasing 4 teams so if one of them got cold and they got hot BUT all of the 4 teams ahead of them have better goaltending to not get cold. It is over.

No offense..but I think it has been diminished a long ago. Mathematically, they're not officially out but I just cannot not picture them playing for the cup this season. I definitely think they're gonna make the playoff next year but they just have not played consistently well this season.

There is no hope in hell that they will make the playoffs. At the beginning of the season I was watching a preview and the commentator (Pierre McGuire) said that Colorado wouldn't make it. I remember being surprised at the time but.............

Ditto on what everyone else has already said. They don't seem to play well as a "unit" this season. Budaj was fantastic today, but goal tending alone won't get you to the playoffs.

Yes. they need just about every game they can get if they want to even get in. That's not going to be easy.
