I have heard this opinion alot since the ipswich murders.
While i understand that prostitution will always be around and these women need some protection i definitely dont agree with legalising it!! i think this would belittle any attempts to teach values to children and would make it seem that its ok to sell yourselves. what do you think?

Legalising it would send the messoge of condoning it.

I say no to legalising it.

One reason it is illegal is the fact that government can't tax that which is illegal. I'm certain there are congress people with hungry eyes on the tax dollars it would generate if legal.

But NOOOOOOOOO!

Prostitutes simply provide a service. If no-one wanted that service, there wouldn't be any prostitutes. Men go to prostitutes for all kinds of reasons, and it's a good thing that they are there to take care of needs men can't or won't get fulfilled elsewhere. It reduces sexual assaults and frustration that can lead to domestic violence and abuse.

In countries like Germany and the Netherlands, and states like Nevada in the US, where prostitution is legal, there is far less crime related to prostitution; the prostitutes themselves are healthier and safer, the the spread of STDs is greatly reduced.

Legalizing it also means it can be controlled; limited to certain neighborhoods, regulated in terms of advertising and so on.

Prostitutes will always exist; and you can teach your kids if you want that these are not women they should visit; but they are not going to disappear if you keep their employment illegal.

I think it should be legalized. I come from Nevada where it is legalized. This makes it so that prostitution occurs in safe and regulated environments, not in some dark alley. It also prevents the spread of Sexually transmitted diseases. The whore are checked weekly for S.T.D.'s and they also use condoms every time they engage ion any kind of intercourse.
Not only all of this but it reduces the horrible scenario of pimps and hookers. Men who think that they cannot get laid any other way are not left raping or even searching for whores, this is because they know they can go to the whore houses spend a little money and have a safe and good time.

Its been around since dawn of time.. I think legalizing would not destroy vaules has values are built in the home and I think are detriating wether or not its legal but it beeing legal may take the glamor out of it has with a open market price would fall it wouldnt be has profitable kinda like when proabition ended the mafia had turn to drugs. Plus it free up police to handle really more threats to society other then some hookers.. But, being freenation I belive it should be legalized. It should follow same standers no minors has current sexlaws are. but it be better off too much wasted on so call moral issues. Rember the johns wherent there the prostitues wouldnt be either. So, Has long their a need for sex then there a need for prostitution...

It’s good for the health of her customers (johns): Legalized prostitution would allow the state to require that all prostitutes take regular health exams, helping to ensure that she or he is not carrying a sexually transmitted disease.
It would give the prostitute employment rights: Many prostitutes are at the financial mercy of their pimps, who often take more than half their income. Legalization would protect their rights.
It would open the door to unionization: Unions would probably be the best enforcer of the industry. They would help ensure that under the radar (illegal, non-taxpaying, non-health exam participants) would stay off the streets.
It’s good for the health of the prostitute: People who live outside the law feel that they can’t turn to the law for protection. Prostitutes are regularly beaten and even killed with little recourse.
Illegal prostitution costs us money: While the costs involved are hard to estimate, it taxes the police force, the public defenders offices and the judicial system. All of these resources could be better utilized pursuing and prosecuting violent offenders.
Legalized prostitution would pay: We could tax prostitution in the same way we tax hospitality, often higher than normal sales tax.
It can’t be prevented: There’s a reason it’s called “the world’s oldest profession”. It’s always been around, it always will be. We might as well bring it out into the open.
The laws are arbitrary and hypocritical: It’s okay for a woman to have sex with a stranger. It’s okay for a woman to have sex with a man she hardly knows after he buys her dinner and drinks or jewelry or other trinkets, why is cash currency treated so differently?
More jobs: With our ever expanding unemployment rate…okay, it might not be the best idea, but you know that women and some men are turning to prostitution out of desperation. At least it would be something to legitimately put on a resume and the Obama administration could take credit for creating some jobs.
It is her or his body! Period!!!!

Prostitution = sex + free enterprise, I'm a fan of both.

It's already legal in Nevada, and like pot, I think that allowing the govt. to control and regulate it will help in protecting the consumers as well as the providers.

Just because its legal does not make it endorsed, just look at Cigarette smoking, its been demonized and sued, yet because its such a cash cow it will never be made illegal, which goes to demonstrate the hypocrisy of the left in the USA. If the anti smoking lobby really gave a damn about the health of the American public Smoking would have been outlawed rather than restricted in its marketing

I think it should be legalized. Like you said, it will always be around and these women *deserve* protection. It will eliminate the need for pimps, and since they treat the hookers like cattle, that's no big loss. It would also help protect against the spread of STDs if it was regulated and required regular testing.

And really, is a prostitute much worse of an example for kids than Paris Hilton or Britney Spears? I don't think so.

Prostitution is not a federal crime. State and local govts. regulate it. Whether or not it should be legal in any particular community depends upon local community standards, as well as zoning ordinances. In my own opinion, if a city is having an enforcement problem with prostitution, then it should legalize it for the purpose of controlling it. By permitting brothels in certain districts, it would drive the 'pimps and street hookers' out of business.

since a childs mind is pretty much form as to what is right and wrong by the time they are 8 to 10 years old , they should not know anything about prostution at that age any way,and since our supreme court in Wade v, Row has rule din abortion rights, That a woman can dowith her body what ever she wants or likes, it would seem prostitution would be included as there are so many benifits in legal prostitution,
containment of social diase,
probable prevent many divorces, from frigid women
surely prevent a lot of rape cases
there would be a tax , something extra for our politicians to spend or steal,
free up police who could concentrate on real criminal problems,
give a man a choice as to take some whore out and spend $200or$300 on her and take a chanch on being charged with rape,or spend $40 at the H,O,P,
forced togive green stamps for the little lady at home, so she can get a cheap gift,
this list could be a very long one but you get the idea,
now who can argue with that???only homo's as this would cut them out completely

Look at it this way.

No law can prevent sex between consenting adults. And laws cannot prevent two consenting adults from agreeing to have sex, and agreeing to the terms of how they will have sex.

Yet, laws against prostitution make it illegal for two consenting adults to have sex if money becomes involved in the agreement. Same conduct, just money rather than favors.

Models sell their bodies for display, including sexual display. Professional athletes sell their physical performance, as do dancers. Chiropractors and physical therapists sell services that involve personal physical contact. Yet, we make one specific type of personal physical contact illegal.

It's an irrational line, based purely on the moral (religious) prohibition against sex outside of marriage. There is no other valid reason, besides religious morality, to draw that line.

Making prostitution legal allows it to be licensed and tax, to ensure quality controls, to prevent exploitation of children, and to protect the health of customers. Keeping it illegal prevents the government from doing anything by punishing participants.

I agree with all that coragryph writes. It needs to be handled like a legitimate business instead of a crime. With the amount of money they would make they could easily afford excellent health care. In turn that could possibly reduce the amount of STDs that occur due to prostitution.
