I'm an aspiring anime artist. I really want to be succesfull and become one of the best. But whats really tricky is that when I see somebody's anime art thats well..better I feel as if "HOW AM I GOING TO DO THAT!?" and I'm not shure what I should do next. I'm pretty much tangled up in a huge mess. My goal is to learn Japanese and move to Japan and start to get known there.. but how? I live in the USA, and I'm an exotic blend of cultures... I don't really think I'll fit in Japan; I don't look Asian and besides I don't think there's ever been an anime artist thats well known, who has an exotic mixture of cultures. I'm been well known in my two schools I've been in. and I try to spread my name as much as I can. I have fans ^-^. I have Asian friends. I'm just really confused and I really don't know what I should do, to achieve my goal and dream. Please help!

You can't become big in Japan if you are a foreigner living in Japan. Japanese entertainers can be big in Japan, foreign entertainers can be, too (Michael Jackson, who is well past his prime everywhere else, is still huge there), but they have to be sold as such. You also can't get a work permit in Japan, unless you are already big there or work for a large and respectable company that submits the paperwork for you.

What you should do, in my opinion, is to find like-minded people in the U.S. (New York and Los Angeles come to mind as possible locations), form a production company, and start selling. If you get lucky, you may get noticed.

Also, you may catch a break if you join a computer game development company as an artist...

Don't let yourself get confussed-it will give you an artist block. You will improve with practice. Maybe you could try something new for awhile, say comic art? As for your dreams of moving to Japan and becoming a famous Anime artist-I wish you the best-if that doesn't work out, you could always become the next great artist here in the U.S.A! By the way, try drawing in YOUR own style, and see what happens! : )

Exotic mixtures of cultures is slowly becoming a popular thing in the USA.

1: Get your work seen, even if its not the top work out there, if someone sees it and likes it then that can only help you. If they see it and don't like it they'll just ignore it so you don't risk much by getting your work out in the open.

2: Cultivate a fan base, even if its your personallity that lures them in. Go to Anime conventions and show your work around. Talk people up, read dale carnegies how to win frioends and influence people

3: Believe in yourself, because if you don't you might under sell your work.

As an artist...the best thing is to try not to compare yourself to other artists (advice I know I need to follow more myself), and just develop your own unique style as it is meant to happen.

Have you considered the career area of those that come up with the look and feel of characters that are used in some of the cartoons and films of that genera? Many animated films are made in more then one country, may not even need to move.

I would say start Building a manga that will help you develop your skills and practise loads. even if you dont feel your manga is very good it will help you develop your skills especially with developing how natural your characters relations with each other is and when you do feel its good enough you can try to get it published. If you decide to build a manga A book i would advise is "how to draw manga, amasing effects" which will help you understand how to compile the manga and a program i would advise is "Manga studio EX 3.0" which is a professional program that will make it allot easyer to actually make and has tonal effects etc. in it.
