A masterpiece is an excellent work of art. The press is an invention. Look up Gutenberg in wikipedia for more info.

Johann Gutenberg, ca. 1400-1468
There are only a few documents that tell the early history of printing and its discoverer. Little is known about the life of Johann (or Johannes) Gutenberg, including his actual year of birth. For example, we do not know if he was married. Even the most familiar engraved portraits of Gutenberg were made long after his death and are based on speculations about his appearance.

Gutenberg was a goldsmith and jeweler, so he may have made jewelry that was a "masterpiece". But he spent a lot of his life perfecting the printing press, specifically on using movable type (that is, one metal block per letter/space/symbol). It's likely that his improvements are based on his knowledge of metals from being a goldsmith. Apparently, though, he lost all of his work in lawsuits for loans, which is truly unfortunate.

Start with your local library, and ask the librarians to show you how to do basic research. Find a biography of Gutenberg, and try the encyclopedia. If you want masterpieces by Gutenberg, he was a goldsmith, so you might be able to find pictures of some of his work.

BTW, he apparently had the world's lousiest sense of timing. For more information, read 'The Pinball Effect', by James Burke.
