no, that can be your opening...but a thesis statement states YOUR opinion...
such as, "I do not believe that the media acts in responsible and ethical ways," that would be a thesis statement....after wards go on and support you viewpoint throughout the paper...

No. Thesis statement is an argument. It is an argument that you make to state your point of view on a specific issue. Thesis statement should include at least three points that support your argument and that you are going to address in the following paragraphs in the same order you place them in the thesis.

You can pose a question in your introduction, however your official thesis statement would be the answer to that question, immediately following the asking of it. It is considered bad practice to have a question in a formal paper which is not immediately addressed.

I would base my thesis on a question that everyone doesn't have the answer to. The answer to your question is an absolute NO!
Here's a good one.
What are the terms to a peaceful resolution of the Jewish situation in the middle east, given by a Palestinian?

I am not an English major, but I believe that since they call it a these STATEMENT, it should be a statement; and I don't believe a question is considered a statement.

It depends on what your teacher wants.
Some teachers require a statement rather than a question.
Some don't.
